Council members play an important role in fulfilling the CRPNA’s mandate of regulating in the public's interest. The CRPNA uses a competency-based selection process for Council recruitment, and we encourage registrants to apply even if they don’t have all the competencies and attributes identified in the CRPNA Competency Matrix . Our goal is to have a range of diverse perspectives represented, and every member can help contribute to meaningful discussion and informed decision-making on Council by bringing their unique background and competencies to the table.

Registered Psychiatric Nursing is a self-regulating profession. As part of self-regulation, we need RPNs with your knowledge, experience and dedication to maintain the regulatory framework that defines us and helps shape the future of psychiatric nursing in this province in a manner that protects and serves the public.

PROVINCIAL COUNCILLOR COMMITMENT

Ready to make a difference? Here’s what to expect:

  • Serve a Four-Year Term: Commit to a four-year role as a Provincial Councillor.
  • Prepare and Participate: Allocate 7-10 days annually for Council meetings and related activities.
  • Attend Meetings: Engage in four one-day Provincial Council meetings held in Edmonton.
  • Join Committees and Retreats: Attend additional committee meetings and retreats as needed.
  • Be Active and Respectful: Participate actively in discussions, respecting diverse opinions, and commit to Council decisions.
  • Shape Strategic Priorities: Contribute to setting priorities for the College and the profession through strategic planning.
  • Engage with the Public and Members: Bring feedback from the public and registrants to the Council.
  • Stay Accountable: Act on behalf of the public and be accountable to them.

APPOINTMENT PROCESS

Eligibility Requirements:

Registered on the Practicing or Provisional register with CRPNA
1+ year of practice in Canada
✅ Willing to serve a 4-year term
✅ Review and meet the *required Council Competency and Attributes Matrix
✅ Provide 2 references 
✅ Submit an Application Form and Member Overview
✅ Comfortable with computer and internet use. Familiarity with MS Office, and Zoom are beneficial. (Support available if needed)

Note: Skills can be developed during the first year on Council if you're committed to learning.


How It Works:

  1. Conflict of Interest: Ensure your personal interests don’t interfere with Council duties. Review the CRPNA’s Conflict of Interest Policy for details.
  2. Submit Your Application by the deadline.
  3. Review Process: Eligible applications will be assessed by the Appointment Committee.
  4. Interviews/Requests: The Committee may reach out for interviews or additional information.
  5. Recommendation: The Committee will recommend appointments at the November Council meeting.
  6. Announcement: Appointments will be announced within 7 days and posted on the CRPNA website.
