The College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) is pleased to announce the introduction of the Internationally Educated Psychiatric Nurses (IEPN) Expedited Credential Assessment Pathway. This project was made possible by funding from the Government of Alberta. The development of this new pathway aims to alleviate existing bottlenecks and remove barriers for IEPNs seeking to immigrate to Alberta. By streamlining the credential assessment process, this expedited pathway will shorten the timeline for IEPNs entering Alberta's workforce.
Since the fall of 2024 CRPNA has been working diligently to introduce an Expedited Credential Assessment Pathway (Pathway 1) for eligible applicants from select programs and schools in the United Kingdom, Nigeria, and Republic of Ireland.
Internationally Educated Psychiatric Nurses (IEPNs) that do not meet the criteria for the Expedited Credential Assessment Pathway, can continue to have a credential assessment completed through the National Nursing Assessment Services (NNAS) Pathway (Pathway 2).
Pathway 1
Expedited Credential Assessment Pathway
CRPNA offers an Expedited Credential Assessment Pathway for eligible graduates from select programs and schools in the United Kingdom, Nigeria, and Republic of Ireland.
To qualify, applicants must meet specific graduation year criteria and have WES (World Education Services) submit a Credential Evaluation and Authentication Report directly to CRPNA to validate the authenticity of their documents and program.
Pathway 2
National Nursing Assessment Services Pathway
Internationally Educated Psychiatric Nurses (IEPNs) who want to apply to CRPNA AND do not meet the expedited credential pathway requirements must apply directly to the National Nursing Assessment Services (NNAS) to have their credentials assessed.
NNAS coordinates a consistent national approach for IEPNs seeking registration/licensure to practice in Canadian jurisdictions.
